Courses for Woodwind & Horn Players

"Good music. Good atmosphere. Good fun!"

Online Instrumental Lessons

I’ve been teaching online recently due to the strange times that we find ourselves living through, and I wondered if you would welcome the chance to have a lesson, or lessons with me. These could be on technique or repertoire, solo or orchestral/ chamber music parts or any other aspects of playing that you want help or guidance with.

While we can’t play in groups online without using an amount of technology that is beyond me, I can teach using FaceTime for those with iPads and iPhones, or using Zoom (a user-friendly, secure, online video conferencing website which just requires internet and a web-cam or smartphone/tablet) for non apple users.

Lesson fees are £20 for thirty minutes.
  • Lessons are offered in the main, for Bassoon, Clarinet and Saxophone.
  • Practice methods and musical interpretation only, on other woodwind instruments (Flute & Oboe).

Welcome to the web-site of Wind Chamber Music Weekends, the residential courses for woodwind and horn players looking for the opportunity to play a wide variety of chamber music with helpful tutors, friendly companions, pleasant surroundings and good food .

We run weekends, long weekends and private, tailor-made, intensive courses.

The WCMW courses are intended for adult players of grade 6/7 and above (based loosely on ABRSM levels). They are based on wind quintets, quartets and trios with some larger ensembles, and are suitable for both individual players seeking opportunities for playing with others of a similar standard, and also for pre-formed groups looking for coaching.

Courses start with all participants playing together in one or two large ensembles. The next day players are divided into chamber groups and given music and a rehearsal room. Tutors rotate around the groups spending 15-30 minutes with each group depending on numbers. The main aim of the course is to experience playing chamber music and to gain a better understanding of sight reading and effective chamber playing and rehearsal. On the longer summer course there is a pianist and the chance to perform solo work as well as specialist instrumental workshops.
